Standing at a crossroad and trying to determine your next move can feel overwhelming. Especially when you are about to make life-changing decisions that will impact your future. When you are trying to take charge of your life, sometimes your marriage can make you feel stuck. The bible gives you 3 clear instructions when making decisions about your life.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
(Proverbs 3:5-6)
Your first step is to trust in the Lord with ALL your heart. Without wavering or doubting his ability to do whatever it is you need him to do right now. This includes inner healing. There is no sorrow or pain too great for him to sweep through and provide you with the inner healing that surpasses your understanding.
But, you must trust him and know that he is able!
Lean not to your own understanding. Sometimes you can be such an educated problem solver, that you overlook the hand of God and his will for your specific situation. Your understanding does not include the full will of God for your life and your marriage. You don’t know every specific detail of the plan God has for you. So making a decision with partial information would be insanity. That’s why we must seek him and for guidance every single step of the way.
In all your ways, submit to him. Keep God at the center, beginning, and end of every decision you make for your life. Be consistent. Don’t just seek him when you are in trouble. You need to have a natural rhythm of constantly seeking him throughout your day for guidance and understanding. This will make it easier for you to hear his voice clearly when you are stuck at a crossroad.
Earnestly pray for his guidance when you are faced with a struggle in your marriage. Seek him and his instructions in the bible. Intentionally listen for his direction and place his will above your desires. You can never go wrong when you are aligning your plan so that it fits completely into his will for your life.
When you do all of this, God he will make your paths straight. That doesn’t mean that you will never experience an obstacle or a tough season. But, it does mean that he will lead you to an expected end of victory.
So while you are standing at a crossroad, be very intentional about seeking God for guidance every step of the way and obeying his instructions.
